Analysis of the Performance of Natural Composite Materials Reinforced with Sago Sheath Fibers as an Alternative Material in Overcoming the Effect of Urban Heat Islands on Buildings

Local knowledge of a region is an asset that encourages the identification region. Hence, specificity, uniqueness, and character animates particular city can distinguish it significantly from other cities. Sago tree fronds are widely applied to buildings as alternative material for making tiles roofs parts buildings. The sago palm has long been used walls, especially in traditional houses. Few previous studies have manufacturing However, based on data field, many houses still use roof wall framing material. This also effort overcome urban heat island phenomenon (UHI) UHI development highly affects environmental quality conditions causes microclimate changes where air temperature areas higher than surrounding temperatures. midrib fiber natural composite reinforcing materials due its thermal mechanical properties. Composite using hand lay-up technique—with characterization methods including impact test DSC test, variations NaOH levels, resin–catalyst matrix—were this study. results obtained were then compared with those literature. showed 6% most significant value 2.1 J, matrix variation 97.5%:2.5% value, which was 2.4 J. Meanwhile, material’s best retaining at 4% content 97.5%:2.5%.
